In the Garden of Eden

August 27th, 2008 2 comments

A very important event in a mother’s life is when their son gets married. A very important event in an artist’s life is when a close relative asks for a portrait of themselves and their new wife and the artist is not intimidated by the idea, but instead feels a wonderful challenge. I present to you my latest painting, of Megan and Tom Boothby. It symbolizes many things, the couple’s love for reptilian creatures, the beginning of their discovery of their relationship, and all the biblical connotations as well. This painting also illustrates for me the fact that I can paint, and I can capture likenesses of people as well.

How to paint a black cat

August 7th, 2008 2 comments

Once again, a painting begins as a problem begging for a solution. How do you paint a black cat in the fading summer sun, with the orangey golden glow on her shiny coat, and still have it look like a black cat? This painting was a lot of fun to do, there were actually 4 different paintings of this same view, the 4th one finally pleased me and I completed it. Abby lives in Podenzano, Italy with her little family, Elena and Enzo. She is terribly spoiled, but still enjoys the simple pleasures, chasing little bugs in the grass, basking in the evening sun.
