How to paint a black cat

Once again, a painting begins as a problem begging for a solution. How do you paint a black cat in the fading summer sun, with the orangey golden glow on her shiny coat, and still have it look like a black cat? This painting was a lot of fun to do, there were actually 4 different paintings of this same view, the 4th one finally pleased me and I completed it. Abby lives in Podenzano, Italy with her little family, Elena and Enzo. She is terribly spoiled, but still enjoys the simple pleasures, chasing little bugs in the grass, basking in the evening sun.

No such thing as a spoilt cat…just well trained owners! Abby looks content here in the long grass and your painting of her in her black coat…wonderful!
