The man on the street

My favorite thing to paint is the human face. I spend a lot of time painting landscapes and flowers, but I always come back to portraits. Wherever I go, I see people and wish I could stop right there and take their picture, or pull out a drawing pad; “Don’t move!” and then sketch out their face. But usually, that is impossible. The other day, on our way to a shop downtown, I saw this guy and gasped, oh, I wish I had a camera! Within seconds, my husband handed me a digital camera and I got him! Talk about good fortune.

I hope you like the result. This is an 11″ x 15″ watercolor on heavy watercolor paper. It is for sale.

  1. This is amazing! I love portraits…you can see so much in a person’s face, as if their story unfolds with each line and paint stroke. You are a talented portrait painter 🙂

  2. I am the exact same way…I rarely do portraits…but I would love to capture them. My daughter always says “mom I bet you’d love to paint them?” It’s always imperfections too! I find the human condition fascinating! Excellent job! He is quite the character! Happy ppf!
