Day 24 – Thinking about you

missingyou

I thought I’d paint another young widow. I have been thinking about this particular face for a while, and I thought it would be interesting to do a little negative painting. Negative painting is the process of painting darks around other shapes to imply substance. It turned out kind of sweet, I think. Mood can be relayed by both expression and posture. This young woman looks like she is missing her man.
There are some things that I’d like to tell you based on my own experience. A lot of people say to recently widowed people, “If there’s anything I can do!” but then, they don’t follow through. To the widow, it seems like they’ve disappeared. You think someone who just had the biggest loss of their life is going to be able to say; “oh yes, I would love for you to come over tomorrow with some chicken soup” ? No, probably not. If you are serious about wanting to help, be assertive. And if all the widow wants to do is talk about her deceased husband, well, let her. Tell her one of your memories of him too.

This painting measures 7″ x 10″ and is for sale for $75.00. All money I get for paintings goes right to endangered species conservation. Buy a painting, help a good cause!

  1. i actually had a reference, but only for the face. And then i had to change the expression anyway! 🙂

  2. Really great figure. And the light is just terrific! The negative painting process worked out really well (and now I must try it)!
