Aggie’s spot

I have been very busy in the ceramic studio making functional ware out of clay. But I am also trying to paint when the muse takes me.

Aggie has been sleeping in the same spot on the bed all of her ten years of life. Today is no different. Now that I have a feather comforter, the other cats prefer to sleep elsewhere, but Aggie stays, luxuriating in the feather comfort.
This painting was particularly fun because I could luxuriate in the colors just like Aggie was luxuriating in the feathers. Her amazing fur catches the light just so and I was able to capture that.

This painting is sold. All proceeds from the sale of this (and every other painting that I do) goes to protect endangered species.. You can help today!

Happy Valentine’s day. This Valentine’s day I chose the Calla Lily, because of its symbolism and shape. I got a little fanciful with the colors, but that’s what artists do. Here’s what ehow says:
Like most flowers, the calla lily has a symbolic meaning. It is, ironically, associated with both weddings and funerals. The calla lily is symbolic of marriage and purity because of its white color and its trumpet-like shape, similar to a woman’s shape. It is also the symbol of rebirth and resurrection.

I chose to paint this flower before I read the meaning but it certainly fits for this year. Happy St Valentine’s Day! Each of these 5×7″ paintings are for sale for $50.00 each. All proceeds go to animal conservation charities.
